Listen Up!

Can you identify the 10 MCBA character?

A Magical, Mystical Night

Where else on the planet could you:
  • go on Minli's Journey,
  • have your fortune told
  • be dazzled by amazing card tricks
  • play Zorgally Ball
  •  learn to embroider
  •  crack a code
  •  identify scat
  •  attend Groovy's Cooking School
  • and eat at Jimmy's Diner?
Only at Books in Action! Friday was a great night at Leverett Elementary School. 122 students from Shutesbury, Swift River and Leverett who qualified by reading a minimum of five Massachusetts Children's Book Award Nominees took part in all of the above activities (and more!) It was a wonderful celebration of reading and the culminating event in our MCBA program. Oh--and the winning book in Union 28? Cracker: The Best Dog in Vietnam by Cynthia Kadohata.

The night could not happen without an amazing group of talented and supportive volunteers--we had over 60 parent and teacher volunteers! THANK YOU!

Thanks to our principals, Bob Mahler, Anne Ross and Sheila Hunter who support this collaborative endeavor between the school librarians and give us the time and resources to make it happen, show up every year to help and  even read the books! We are grateful.

Goldman! Goldman!

He did it! He assembled a team of outstanding readers. Infused them with enthusiasm, creativity and exuberance. Gave them time  to do their thing. The end result: Matt Goldman's class has won the MCBA participation points contest for the first time ever!  With 282 books read, amazing book projects and a high level of participation on all the MCBA activities the title is well deserved.

For their efforts, the class wins a party of their choice hosted by the LC. Past parties have included a disco party, snack party, p.j. breakfast buffet, and a movie premiere.

Congratulations Mr. G, Ms. Mannino and all your students!

The SES winner is....

In a landslide!

Battle of the Books

A well fought Battle on Tuesday ended with a defeat at the hands of Swift River School 16-11via Skype. Congratulations as they move on to face defending champ Leverett on Thursday.

I'm proud of our school team, Aidan, Mary, Noelle and Noah, all 4th graders, who did a great job and exhibited both detailed knowledge of the books and good sportsmanship.
